209 goats over 2 years old (44 males and 165 non-pregnant females) were randomly selected from five provinces in the Apurimac region of Peru: Abancay 17-31), Andahuaylas (9-36), Chincheros (7-31), Aymaraes (5-33) and Grau (6-34). All goats were evaluated to determine the state of homogeneity or heterogeneity and to describe their morphotype according to morphological character including 14 qualitative traits, 10 quantitative traits, and 9 zoometric indexes. CARACTERIZACIÓN GENÉTICA DE LA POBLACIÓN DE CABRAS AUTÓCTONAS DE LA REGIÓN APURÍMAC DE PERÚ

Raising goats, in the region Apurimac from Peru, is an important source of food and income for many families. For this reason a study was conducted to characterize the genetic diversity of the local goat population. Genetic diversity was evaluated in 62 native goats from both sexes, grouped into four subpopulations: Abancay, Andahuaylas, Chincheros and Grau by means of 13 microsatellite markers.
